It's time to stop waiting on perfect. I'm just going to come right out and say it at the start of this episode. It is time to stop waiting on perfect. A lot of times, whether you mean to or not, whether you're intentional or unintentional with your perfectionism, a lot of times you are waiting. Until you've reached a specific state of perfect for you to do the thing, start the thing, stop the thing, finally go about what God is calling you to do, launch that business, write that book, start that project, build this habit, whatever it is, you keep making excuses that have to do with your perfectionism problems. Now, I would be a hypocrite if I was preaching this to you without telling you that I struggle with this too, okay? This episode is just as much for me as it is for you. Perfectionism is something that I've personally struggled with my entire life and It's really important for us to be self aware about where our perfectionism comes from. And that, my friend, is the internal work that you need to do, understanding why are you striving for perfectionism so hard. Did you have a certain childhood where expectations were put on you, and therefore you felt the need to be perfect? Were you competitive and you felt the need to be perfect? Do you struggle in playing the comparison game and because of that you feel the need to be perfect? Do you struggle with your own insecurity and because of that you feel the need to wait until you're perfect to actually go about that thing? There are so many reasons, whoo, there are so many reasons why a lot of us just got that perfectionist bug. But here's the thing, you have a choice. You can choose to continue in striving towards perfection for the rest of your life because it's what you're used to. It's all you know. You can make a change. You can decide, literally today, that you are going to dead perfectionism and no longer allow it to be the thing that holds you back from doing what God is calling you to do in this world. If you're a returning listener, you already know this about me. But if you are a new listener, I just want to emphasize that I am extremely passionate about you doing what God is calling you to do. There is a specific calling over your life. You weren't just created for nothing. You have a purpose. You have a calling. You were created on purpose. And it is up to you to make the choice to fulfill that calling. God simply wants your yes. Your life can change by you simply saying, yes, people that you will impact in the near future will change by your yes, that you give to God now. The hard part is that we have so many traumas and experiences and issues And fears that hold us back from giving God that yes. And one of those things is waiting on the perfect moment, the perfect season, the perfect financial situation, the perfect idea, the perfect strategy, the perfect look, the perfect feel. And although it might seem reasonable in your mind as to why you're waiting on that perfect, in actuality, my friend, more likely than not, it is just an excuse. You know, I love you. I am here to empower and inspire you. And yes, I will show love. I will be kind, but I also am looking out for you. And sometimes that takes me pushing you just a little bit. It's time to stop with the excuses. You waiting on perfect is you delaying results. You delaying outcomes. You delaying seeds planted that flourish into gorgeous flowers, gorgeous plant life. You delay all of that and sometimes my friend, you just might never actually see that because you spend your entire life waiting on the perfect. Now, let me be very clear. There is a difference in waiting because God told you to and waiting because you're making excuses. You have to decipher which is which in the season of your life. Are you waiting because God told you to pause and to focus on something else right now for reasons that you and Him will know? Or are you waiting because you're making excuses in your mind out of what feels convenient to you, out of what feels comfortable to you? And if that's the case for you, my friend, let me just straight up tell you. God does not want you to remain in comfort and convenience. He wants you to trust him enough to get uncomfortable. To be in seasons or to do certain things, to start certain things, to stop certain things that are not convenient, that make you feel uncomfortable. Why? Because that is where you grow. You cannot grow when you're comfortable. You remain stagnant when you're comfortable. You even can unintentionally decline when you're comfortable. Getting uncomfortable helps you to grow. It helps you to try and to experience new things. It helps build your confidence. It makes you bold. It elevates your faith. It reshapes your heart's position. Getting uncomfortable and working out of your own convenience many times is what comes when God calls us to do something. I want to read this verse for you that I came across in the Bible yesterday, and it was so powerful. 11, 4, and it says, Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. I want you to sit with that verse and I want you to break down what that scripture is saying. Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If you are always waiting for the perfect time, the perfect thing, you will never actually plant what God has always called you to plant. You will delay it. You will never see the outcome or the beautiful result of it because you didn't trust God enough to give him your yes. Because perfectionism was overshadowing it a little too much. And that second line, if they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Oh my gosh, that's so powerful. When I think of clouds, I think of gray. I think that it hides the sun, it hides the light. If you are watching every dark or scary thing in your life that is causing you fear, all of the negative what ifs that cause you fear and that keep you from doing what God is calling you to do. Then you never reap the harvest, because you allowed your fear, you allowed your perfectionism to basically say no to God. That's the reality of it, and it's a hard truth. You might think you're playing it safe, and you might be unintentional in saying no to God, but if you know strongly in your spirit that He is calling you to do something and you aren't, you're telling Him no. What does it look like to turn the page and tell Him yes? It's okay that you're scared. It's okay that you don't know the future or what it holds if you are going to say yes to God. It's okay. All God needs is your yes. He does not need your perfect. He does not need your 100 percent full on confidence and bravery. He doesn't need you to be fully filled with all this clarity and knowledge. He just needs your yes. He just needs you to trust Him. how can we work on this? How can we work on overcoming perfect to the point where it is no longer an excuse that holds us back from doing what God is calling us to do? The first thing that I'll say You need to let God be perfect enough for you. Let God take on the perfect so that you don't have to. How do you do that? By believing that God is perfect. There is no flaw. So, if you believe that God, the creator of the universe, the creator of you, the creator of every single hair on your head, your existence, if you believe that He is perfect and that He lives in you, He is right by your side, that is all the perfect you need. You don't need to be perfect. Jesus will be perfect for you. Now, this doesn't mean that you can just intentionally do whatever you want and intentionally mess up and it's whatever. No, that's not what I'm saying. Okay. You have to grow as a person. You definitely want your life to be in alignment with God's way and his roadmap for how you should be living your life. But you need to remember that God does not expect you to be perfect. You are human. That is one of the biggest reasons why Jesus came to this earth. He took on so much for us. He was the perfect. And I think we just need that reality check. I think it's so easy for us to say, Oh yeah, I believe in God. I have faith. I trust God. But when you check your heart's position, you need to ask deeper questions that can either confirm or deny the fact that you may or may not fully believe in God. And I know I'm coming at you, but listen, I'm coming at myself too. Okay. I've struggled with this. I have my moments God is working on my heart. All right Truly believing in God is believing that he is perfect Believing that he is all you need He is so perfect that whatever he calls you to do You will say yes, even if it's scary, even if it's weird, even if you're not sure, because you know that he is perfect enough to trust in him. To know that everything is going to be okay. If God has called you to it, he has got you. He's got you. Through the ups and the downs, he's got you and he will use everything for your good in order to accomplish what he's called you to do in this world. Second thing that I'll say in helping you overcome your perfectionism issues. Find joy in the messy. A lot of times we don't want to start the thing or do the thing. Because we don't want it to be messy. We're kind of afraid of the messy, whether it looks messy to other people or it feels messy to us. And we just don't want that. So we're going to wait until we have more clarity so that it's more organized and it's not messy. And we have this perfect, well thought out plan. My friend, that is keeping you from doing what God is calling you to do. That is delaying what God has in store for you in the future. Is it good to plan? Absolutely. Is it good to have a strategy? Absolutely. Is it good to have a system? 100%. But you don't need to be perfect with it, especially when you are just starting out. Find joy in the messy. Do it messy. Just start. Who cares how it looks to everybody else? What you should value More than anything is the fact that you said yes to God, even though you saying yes means that it looks messy for a little bit. Because what you should be proud of is the fact that you said yes, and the fact that you started. Who cares how it looks right now? You do it messy. You figure it out along the way, you pivot where needed, and over time, things become more clear, become more organized. They start to make sense. You start to gain more insight on the direction to go in. But in order to get there, you got to start messy. I'm going to give you an example. When I first started in online entrepreneurship and starting my own business, I created a website. I was so proud of this website back when I created it. It was messy. Absolutely. But I was so proud of it because I just started and I was excited to do that. A few years later, I looked back at that website and all I could do was laugh because y'all, that website was horrible. Oh my goodness. You're talking about the most outdated, weird elements. It just didn't even make sense for a website. Okay. And I just laughed and I had such a heart for my past self. Because I was like, wow, had I not took the step to create a messy website, I would have never figured out along the way what it took to build a good, credible, beautiful website that represented who I am. I would have never created this website that I have today. Start with the messy. That was just a random example. Think about for you. What does it look like for you to start messy right now? Find joy in it. Find fun in it and one day you'll look back and you will be proud that you took those messy steps. You will laugh at it. You will have such a heart for it. And I know that starting messy oftentimes can feel like we're failing, right? We started doing this and it's messy and it doesn't seem to work and we just feel like we're failing. I read something in a book called The Purpose Driven Life. I referenced that book a lot, by the way, because I'm reading it currently and I love it so much. It's one of the best books I've ever read by Rick Warren. And he said this statement where he was like, anything you try within your creative gifts and you feel like you failed, never look at it like a failure. instead, look at it as an experiment. And I just thought that was so powerful because it's true. You are simply experimenting, you're trying, you're testing, you're figuring it out. If you don't experiment, you will never figure it out. Nobody comes out right away starting something and oh my gosh, it's just perfect. Everything is right. Everything is just full clarity and confidence. No, it starts messy. It starts by experimenting. It is not a failure. You're trying, you're testing. And as you do, find joy in that mess. Be proud that even though it's messy, you said yes to God. And you're doing it and you're going to keep doing it as things get better and better over time. Last thing that I'll say to help you overcome that perfectionist bug, realize that people actually want to see the imperfect. There has been a shift on social media, for example, I would say in the past couple of years where more and more people want to see you being authentic. They want more of a communicative, relatable feel. They don't want this picture perfect, I'm successful, everything is working, look at my joy, kind of posts all the time. They want the authentic. They want the real you. And guess what? A lot of times, the real you is messy. That's just the truth. We're human beings. So, if people nowadays want to see the imperfect, Don't be afraid to give them that. You don't have to show up as this picture perfect version of you all the time. It's okay to show up authentic. It's okay to share your messy journey, the learning lessons, the experiments. It's okay to share all of that. It's also okay in in person conversations. It's okay to be honest. When someone's asking, how are you doing? It's okay to be honest. When someone's asking about that book or that business or that project, rather than saying, Oh yeah, everything's going so well. It's okay to be honest. Sure, you can highlight what is going well, absolutely, praise God for that. But it's okay to also talk about what's hard, what's messy, what doesn't feel perfect. This helps people see you as human, someone they can relate to. Why? Because that person that's watching that video of you being honest or talking to you and hearing you be honest in person, that person feels seen because they also go through their imperfect, messy moments, hard moments, experimental moments, moments where they don't know what in the world is even going on. They feel seen by you being honest about your own journey too. And at the end of the day, that is what community is about a lot of times. God wants us to be able to help each other, to uplift each other. We can't do that by constantly showcasing to each other that we are perfect and that everything is all good. Have honest conversations. Be authentic. Be real. Share your journey. All in all, my friend, stepping out of perfectionism just takes time. You have to think, if you have been struggling with perfectionism your entire life, starting today! You could be unlearning, all the things that you knew up until this point over all the years when it comes to your perfectionism. You have to take time to unlearn that, to let go of that core belief of perfectionism and to start a new core belief that at the end of the day has to do with you not being perfect. And you working on that can start with the advice that I gave you in this episode. You can do this. You really can. It's time to stop with the excuses. It's time to stop allowing perfectionism to hold you back. Let God be perfect enough for you. Find joy in the messy and realize that being imperfect, people relate to that. People value that. Thanks so much for watching, friend. I hope this was helpful for you. And hey, if you're watching this, and if you have an ambition to turn your creative gift into an online business, doing what it is that you feel called to do, how you want to make an impact to other people in the world, then I got something for you. I am going to be hosting an exclusive, free, two day, virtual mastermind that I would love for you to be a part of. And I say exclusive because this is not open to all the public in the whole world.
