Speaker:

Wanna talk about selling as a Christian, a common fear, a thought hesitation that some of us as Christians have, or sometimes subconsciously we're thinking or wondering, am I charging too much? Is this even right when it comes to being a creative, an entrepreneur? Ambitious towards what God is calling you to do in business. Obviously a part of that is taking your beautiful God-given creative ideas and putting it out there into the world. Yes, sometimes not for profit, 100% strictly for impact, but other times it is for both impact and profit, and I found that a lot of the people that I work with, or even just within my own self or just in random conversations, when you are Christian and when you lead with God in everything that you do. Sometimes selling your ideas in the online world or directly to people. Sometimes you find yourself questioning, is this godly? Should I even do this? Or, you're selling it and you're not really charging as much as you should for what it is that you are selling. So I just wanna have an honest conversation to talk about that on another episode of the God Empowered Entrepreneur Podcast, in hopes that this episode brightens your perspective. Allows you to feel more confident to charge what your offers are worth, while at the same time keeping your selling strategy, your sales approach, God centered. So when I first built my life and business coaching programs, I was charging around$500 for an entire three month coaching experience with me, which maybe you're listening to this and you're new to the business world and you're like, oh, 500. That would be nice to have. That sounds great. But just to paint the picture, one-on-one coaching programs range anywhere between 3000 to 10,000 and up on average. But at the time, not only was I afraid to up my prices because I was new in the space. But I also didn't feel right doing it as a Christian. I didn't feel right giving advice, guiding people, helping people, mentoring people, and charging them for it. Because I had this thought of, well, wouldn't Jesus do it for free? Wouldn't Jesus do it for impact and not the money? So if that's what Jesus does, then shouldn't I do that same thing? And then there was just so much guilt to the point where for a while I wouldn't raise my prices and I thought that I was leading with a God-centered heart. As an entrepreneur by doing that. Here's the thing, was I leading with a God-centered heart? 100%, but I was missing a whole nother part of it that could have allowed me to still lead with the God-centered heart. Still lead with impact first and foremost. But also still being able to financially sustain to profit based off of what God was calling me to do as a business owner. So let me first try to reposition your mind a bit on the concept of making money as a Christian. Making money by spreading the gospel or planting a seed or shining a light based off what God is calling you to do with that creative project, with that book, with your business, and you being able to profit from that. And of course, we always gotta go back to the ultimate roadmap, which is the Bible. So I saw this post on TikTok, actually this Bible verse on TikTok, and I was trying to find the creator that initially gave me this idea to talk about it in today's podcast episode. I cannot remember where I found it from, but I want to be honest in saying that I saw it on TikTok first. I looked at that Bible verse, it sparked something in me. And now I want to bring that verse to you and spend the rest of our time in this episode talking about it. Alright, so just tune in for me for a second. I'm gonna read and then we're gonna talk about it. Part of what First Corinthians nine, starting at verse 10 says, yes, this was written for us. Because whoever plows and thrushes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest, if we have sewn spiritual seed among you. Is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? And then in verse 14, it says, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. I would recommend that you read that entire chapter because I am still reading it. I'm still absorbing it, understanding it more fully. There's a lot in this chapter that you're gonna be able to relate to when it comes to not. Charging what you might be worth in what God is calling you to do. At the same time, it gives us a fresh perspective to break any. Norm, anything that you've been taught in regards to charging for your offers for your services as a Christian? And I wanna go back to that last verse. The Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. There are so many ways that we preach the gospel based on what God calls us to do in our specific industries and niches. And yes, preaching the gospel could be flat out actually preaching the Bible, actually preaching the word of God actually preaching the New Testament. But. Preaching the gospel can also mean planting a seed and aligning it to the industry and niche that you're in so that your audience receives that seed planted. Your audience can see that light shining bright within you, and sometimes that one little thing can be all that God needs to turn that person's heart more closely to him. If you specifically have a Christian business where you are pulling in biblical principles and talking very boldly about it. Inside of your creativity, or maybe you're doing it in more of a subtle way, it is okay to make a living from that. Here's where we need to be careful. We cannot pursue what God is calling us to do as entrepreneurs with first and foremost the goal of making money. That is where it gets dangerous because if you're leading in making money, then money is sitting on the throne of your heart where God should be. But when you lead with impact, when you lead with the mission that God is calling you to make in this world, then money will follow. He will bless that when you obey what he's calling you to do and spread the gospel in the way that he's calling you to spread it through your business, through your book, whether it's super bold or more subtle, depending on the audience that God is calling you to serve, God will bless that. You also want to think about the fact that you're not just. Helping to transform people through your business, your project, book, whatever it is, you are also offering a service. You are also giving your time, you're giving your energy, you're giving yourself towards someone else in a hands-on very specific way. So when you do that, you can make what you're selling be in more alignment with how God would want you to go about it, so that even if you're charging more, or even if you're finally charging for the first time, you're doing it in a way. That isn't just fair for you and your audience, but also creates this really beautiful balance between leading with impact and being able to profit from that as well. Is in God's calling for you right now based off of the business that you want to build or scale. So how can we get a little bit more comfortable with that? How can we make our selling more God-centered? The first thing that I would say is you have to stop viewing it as the sale. You have to view it as the solution. You're not selling an offer. You're selling a solution. This is the biggest mindset shift for me when it came to launching programs and products. And if I felt guilty about it, I had to first pause and ask myself, one, am I leading with impact? Two, apart from these offers that I'm selling, am I being generous with any profit that would come from it? And three, is this an ultimate solution? Hands-on. That someone needs right now. These things help position my mind to saying I'm not selling an offer. I'm selling a solution that I feel called to give someone based off of what I know, based off of the experience that God has brought me through, based off of the expertise that God has allowed me to build over time. So that I can help someone else. Another big part of that is making sure that you're delivering on that solution, especially if it's a lot of money for your services or for your products. Make sure that you're meeting the expectations of whoever is purchasing them. God calls us to be good stewards. And we have to question if we're being a good steward, if we're not doing what we promise we would do in the solution that we're selling to the audience we serve. Show up for them, steward them really well. Be present, be there. Be different from the industry norms. For example, there's a lot of coaches in the online space that will sell you on a course, and you just have to take it. And yeah, you get maybe a little community to help you with the productivity of you finishing the course, but when it comes to the actual coach that you trusted in yourself, the one who created that product or that service, they're very hands off. You don't really see them in the community that often. You don't really get to talk with them one-on-one or ask them questions because, well, you bought their course. And now that their launch is over, they kind of take a step back and let their team handle the organization of whoever purchased. I'm not saying that this is necessarily bad, and I'm not trying to point fingers. I'm just saying that if you know your audience wants you, they want you to be more present, they want you to show up, they want more of that access to you, then it is okay to give them that, to steward them. Well, in my programs, I like working with smaller groups of people. Because that means I can give them more one-on-one attention. It means that if they DM me, I will respond. It means that if they submit certain things and want feedback, I will give that feedback. Think about that in your sense. What does it look like for whatever it is that you're selling, to not just be selling an offer, but to be selling a solution, and at the same time, delivering on that solution over exceeding their expectations, being different, standing out, being present for the people that God. Has called you to serve every single person that purchases what you are selling. That's a blessing. Whether it's one person, whether it's thousand people, and yes, I do mean a blessing financially, but I more so mean a blessing in the people that are trusting you enough to want to invest their money and time in what you've created. What a blessing, what a gift that you have this beautiful opportunity to lead those people well to take care of them. Now, my second point in this. Don't be afraid to meet people where they are at when it comes to selling your stuff. And let's say someone really. Wants it, but they can't afford it. Why deny them? Because you charged what you're worth. And for anyone who can't afford that, well bye. Is that what God would call you to do? Don't be afraid to financially be able to work out something that works better for that person's financial situation. You're more receptive to doing that when you lead with impact, not money. So if you're ever curious. Of if or when you're leading with money, think to yourself, am I denying people because they can't afford something and if so, how can I change that? One of the best ways to change that, especially if this is more of a one-on-one service, is to have a conversation about meeting them more where they're at, what can they do, what budget do they have? Can you pitch a different monthly, more flexible option so that they can. Be a part of this program or be a part of your service, or be a part of this cohort, whatever it is that you're selling. I have done this countless times. I've had students pay in full for my programs and I've also had students who flat out told me, I can't afford this, but I really wanna do it. And instead of me saying, okay, well maybe next time, no. Okay, well how about we do this? Can this work for you? A lot of us know what it's like to financially struggle. The Bible tells us to share in each other's burdens. Share in the burdens of your audience. Try to meet someone where they are at, even if it means lowering your prices for them a bit. And if you're like lowering my prices, well that's gonna mean I profit less. No, that's the world's way of thinking. But when you think God's way, you lowering your price just to meet someone where they are at so that they can work with you, shows that you have a generous heart. It shows that you are leading with impact. And if your heart's position is truly there, God sees that he will bless that he will take care of you. Final point, I recommend having. Both a high ticket offer and a low ticket offer. In other words, because, like I mentioned, to try to get into the perspective of not selling an offer, but rather selling a solution, have a high ticket solution and a low ticket solution. When I say a high ticket solution, I'm talking about a product, an offer, a service that is a thousand dollars or more. It's more pricey, but it's more hands-on. It's more features involved. It's more of a higher value solution. When I say a low ticket solution, I generally mean a hundred dollars or less think eBooks or a community or a one-off coaching call for 30 minutes versus a high ticket solution like I mentioned previously, are things like coaching programs or courses or cohorts. Maybe it's a bundle of different things that you have or that you built, or that you offer that you wanna sell as a pack. When you have a variety like that, you are allowing people the chance to work with you, to learn from you, to be guided by you, no matter the financial situation that they're in. If they can afford your high ticket solution, great. They'll opt into that. If they can't afford your high ticket solution, well great. You can either meet them where they are at. By having a one-on-one conversation and maybe offering a partial scholarship or a discount so that they can be in your high ticket solution or. You also have the option of a low ticket solution where they can still learn from you, they can still feel guided by you. On top of that, you don't just wanna lead with your high and low ticket solutions that you're selling. Business is about showing up for free. First, free content on social media. That's helpful, educational, encouraging free content that's like that on YouTube, or a podcast free advice in one-on-one conversations you showing up for free in those ways is you serving first. It's you building trust first. It's you helping first without expecting a financial return on that time that you're investing to create those free pieces of content. And when you get into the habit of doing that, then you can sell your high and low ticket solutions. A business like that has a mixture of free. Cheaper and higher tiered. Beautiful mixture of generosity, impact, and profit. Let me just wrap up this short episode by sharing, it is okay to charge more. It is okay to charge what you're worth. However, be careful in ensuring that what you're charging and as you're selling that you are keeping it God-centered. You're leading with impact. You're meeting people where they are at. You are showing up for them regardless. You're not just in it for the money. You're in it because this is what God called you to do and he wants you through your business, through that creative project. He wants to use you as a vessel to shine his light through you to others, to plant a seed through you to others, to transform people through you, to others. Give God that space to do that, to take lead in doing that in your business. As you go about selling, I hope you enjoyed this episode, my friend.
